The Perfect Guest Bedroom

Both my husband and I grew up in Brisbane and all our family still live there, so whenever family come to visit they stay for a while. Add on to that, the fact that we have lived overseas and have friends living outside of Sydney, we often have visitors staying with us for anything from overnight to a month. Therefore, we need to have a comfortable guest bedroom.

I was recently asked to give my advice for creating the perfect guest bedroom. One of my most important tips is to make sure there is somewhere for your guests to store their clothes. There’s nothing worse than living out of a suitcase or having an open case on the floor to trip over.

So many homeowners use the spare room as extra storage and for 99% of the time that is ok. But when guests are arriving it’s nice for them to think the room is all theirs. Move your clothing out or at least aside so your guests have somewhere to hang their clothes. Empty out a couple of drawers so they can pop their belongings away.

It works for the hostess too as everytime you pass the bedroom you won’t be thinking about the mess and wishing they were on their way!

A bedside lamp and side table are also required so your guests can read at night without the overhead light and also somewhere to place their personal items.
